Marrying into my Vivint Smart Home
After my wedding just a few months ago, I moved into my husband’s home that is secured by a Vivint Smart Home system. He taught me how to use the system, and I have loved how simple it is to use and how secure I feel in our home. We quickly discovered, however, that the introduction of myself and my living habits meant a need for a few revisions in how we set up and use our system.
Despite my utter lack of a green thumb, I tend to park in the garage and then go straight to the garden when I get home without ever entering the house, closing the garage, or disarming the system. My husband’s previously programmed rules for arming our home didn’t account for my ditzy nature, nor that I love to open the window in the middle of the night to get fresh air, triggering the window sensor and scaring him out of a deep sleep. I’ll admit, learning to silence the false alarm in his state of adrenaline-driven half-sleep was pretty hilarious, but we knew we needed to make some simple adjustments to the system to prevent anymore false alarms.
There was a bit of a learning curve to combining our habits and the technology, but it wasn’t long before we had programmed new rules for our system that work wonderfully for our family. Simple things like learning to open the garage with the Vivint SkyApp on my phone (which also reminds me to close the garage!), allows me to continue playing in the garden and keep our home is secure.
False alarms may happen from time to time, for one reason or another, but with a little bit of learning and laughter, we’ve realized we can prevent most of them and are happy in our smart home.
